| What's the fishing like? We'll let a resident answer that for us: "With so many good comments at the 2005 Annual Meeting, fishing the Watauga River popped into my head as a great idea. After all, I thought, the stream committee has taken a lot of time to clean and rebuild several trout hiding areas: they've stocked the stream at least twice since last year's floods; and it looks wide enough that I won't lose all my flies! So off I went. Having suited up my waders and with rod & reel in hand, I trudged about mile downstream along the mighty Watauga. Ample rains had the Watauga up nicely. The stream was brisk yet the water was perfectly clear. I stealthfully waded in under an old maple and carefully prepared for the challenge. Having spent $30 and a half hour at Appalachian Angler clearly assured my upcoming victory. One cast upstream ? nothing. A second cast ? nothing again. A third cast ? Eureka! A nice 10 rainbow was my prize. Great start! The day turned out to be nothing but spectacular. And after enjoying the magnificent Browns, Brooks, and Rainbows of the Boone fork, something new happened-- a Bass! Then a Brown, then a Sunfish, then a Rainbow, then a strange-looking Trout/Sucker?, then another Rainbow. Wow! My Sunday morning on beat #6 is now my best day of fishing at Twin Rivers. The final count? 3 lost flies, one dunked camera, and 20 fish! A long and hardy thank you to the stream committee! Signed, the Fearless Angler" |

Will I have access to the streams if I don't buy on the water? Yes. An easement allowing any Twin Rivers owner access to the streams and its borders has been incorporated as an addendum to the restrictions (Book 479, page 626, Watauga County). The fishing is strictly catch and release and when combined with the adjoining 4,200 acre Price Park of the Blue Ridge Parkway, there are miles of streams. |

Tell me about the land and the water; what is so special? You must drive through the property, at least to the Nana connector bridge over the Boone Fork Creek, to begin to understand. The 400+ acres join the National Park service land, and range in elevation from 2,960' at the Watauga River to 3,548' on Myria Knob, from where there are great views of Grandfather Mountain. The Boone Fork Creek is the water coming from Price Lake on the Blue Ridge Parkway, with Simms Creek, Green Branch, and Bee Tree Creek (all on Park Service Land) flowing into the Boone Fork before entering Twin Rivers. (USGS topos: Boone quadrangle and Valle Crucis quadrangle). This is clean, pure water from the Park. |
